The submersible was built and is being operated by the Rebikoff-Niggeler Foundation/Portugal. It has been used in different scientific projects in the sea area of the Azores, since 2001.
The submersible is built to the rules and regulations of the classification bureau American Bureau of Shipping, ABS, to +A 1. The 150 degrees spherical bow viewport provides a spectacular view of the sea bed and surrounding water.
From harbour to the dive site, LULA proceeds under her own power and thus is not tied to a large oceanographic vessel. The sub sails under Portuguese flag. Fits in a 40´ container for shipping.
Location of submersible:
Horta Marina,
Faial Island, Azores
