every dive with LULA leads us two unknown territory that has never been seen by Man before.
Some of the discoveries made during dives with LULA in our main diving area, the southern Faial Channel.
on the right:
octopus macropus, a deep water octopus species, sponges at a little sea mount, and - spectacular discovery! - an undescribed species of giant oysters at a depth of 500 metres.
on the right:
living fossil: never before seen alive, the deep water "sailfin roughshark" (oxynotus paradoxus).
deep water species which a diver will not encounter:a bluntnose sixgill shark, hunting squid (loligo forbesi).
all images were taken during dives with submarine LULA at a depth of 400-500 metres.
on the left:
anglerfish, coldwater corals, sponge with crab.
on the left:
corals, stylasterids and - upper left image - a 2 m high black coral (Antipatharia).
